About our Head Trainer & Owner

Certified and Experienced Trainer

Carissa is certified and has 10 years of experience working with dogs of all breeds and ages. She is passionate about helping dogs reach their full potential and works tirelessly to ensure that every dog receives the best possible care and attention.

Carissa started through a school to work program training only service dogs for special needs kids back in high school, then is a graduate of Animal Behavior College, as well as being a certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator through AKC. She has taken extra classes, seminars, and worked alongside other trainers as well learning as much as she can over the years. She specializes in task training service dogs, including, but not limited to, seizure alert, diabetic alert, autism response, anxiety response, mobility, and PTSD service dogs. She has also trained multiple therapy dogs, ran frequent obedience classes, taught seminars, competes in sports, as well as helping many dogs with behavior issues.

Scar the Blue Merle Australian Shepherd is the reason I own this company today. He is my 6-year-old service dog who has gone through years of training with me. He is the demo dog for all classes, service dog lessons, therapy dog lessons, private lessons, and much more. He is an absolute blessing, with all the tricks and tasks he's learned through the years. Scar has a very impressive resume from being an amazing service dog to the superstar in dog sports all the way to Hollywood do commercials. He competes in multiple sports, holds over 50 titles, and has lots of fans to follow on his Instagram @villainonduty

Dr Doom

Dr Doom the Black Bi Australian Shepherd who was just added to the pack all the way from Utah. He will hopefully follow in his brothers footsteps, doing sports, dabble in conformation, train to tandem with Scar as a service dog as well as being a back up for days Scar needs a break. He came from an amazing line, and has a lot of potential, for now he will be focusing on puppy training and his basics! He is also on instagram @villainonduty

Assistant/Mentoring Trainer

Meet Liam! Liam is an illustrator and dog trainer "in training". He got introduced to dog training at age 11 when his family brought home a German Shepherd puppy, Nika, in 2016. Liam worked with Nika from basic obedience and tricks to handling reactivity. He has been working at TOPS Kennel of Grayslake since 2023 as an experienced Playtimer and completed a 6-week mentor assisted board-and-train over the past summer. In 2024, Liam received his own service dog from a non-profit organization, Canines 4Comfort. Through this program he was mentored in training and maintaining task work and public access skills. Now, he is a dedicated volunteer offering one-on-one training and support for new recipients. Liam has a passion for working with service dogs and their handlers in order to set them up for a successful healthy partnership.

Liam is now undergoing partnering with Carissa the head trainer to develop more skills in this field, help out offering more availability for classes and private lessons since there’s a high demand, and overall make a change in the world of affordable service dogs to give people independence.

We are very excited to welcome Liam and his dog Lilly to Scar’s AUSSome Training team and can’t wait for you to meet them!

Lilly is a 4-year-old West German Show Line German Shepherd. Canines 4 Comfort received Lilly as a puppy eventually placing her with Liam in 2024 and they have been working together as a team ever since. Lilly grew to be an exceptional service dog and often acts as a demo dog for future teams. In her off time Lilly loves to play frisbee, chew on her favorite ball, or cuddle up in someone's personal space. You can follow Lilly’s page @servicelils

Lilly

Nika was a 9-year-old sable German Shepherd. She was a loyal and well loved family pet. Due to medical conditions, Nika missed her crucial socialization stages and developed reactivity towards dogs and extreme nervousness at the vet and groomer. Despite these challenges, Nika welcomed Lilly into her life and learned how to play and co-exist with another dog. She was a silly spunky girl who taught Liam so many valuable lessons and skills. Today she is by his side just in the form of an Angel but an important part of his story.
